How to generate test data
- Start from the default customer table or build your own: add columns, choose a type for each, and rename the headers.
- Set the number of rows and a seed. The preview updates as you go.
- Download the CSV, copy it, or open it in the viewer to sort and inspect it.
Column types
- People
- First, last and full names, emails and usernames built from the same name in each row, plus fictional phone numbers.
- Places
- A city with its matching country.
- Numbers and dates
- Integers, decimals and prices within a range, dates and timestamps between two days, booleans and row numbers.
- Identifiers
- UUIDs (version 4 format), IPv4 addresses from documentation ranges and example.com URLs.
- Pick from list
- Random values from your own comma-separated list, such as
active, pending, closed.
Every column can leave a share of its cells empty, which is useful for testing how an importer or the CSV cleaner handles blanks.
Frequently asked questions
Are the email addresses real?
No. Every address ends in example.com, example.org or example.net, domains reserved for documentation by RFC 2606, so a test can never email a real person by accident. Phone numbers use the fictional 555-01xx range and IP addresses come from the RFC 5737 documentation blocks.
What does the seed do?
The seed drives a deterministic random number generator. The same seed, columns and row count always produce exactly the same file, so a test fixture can be regenerated instead of stored. Change the seed for a different data set.
How many rows can I generate?
Up to 500,000 rows per file. Rows are generated in chunks so the page stays responsive; large files take a few seconds.
Are the names real people?
They are random combinations of common first and last names from many countries. Any match with a real person is a coincidence.
